16th Annual Big Hill Challenge – Get Ready For A Great Bike Ride

Cycling is such a fun hobby. It’s a great way to exercise and to see your surroundings in a way you’ve never seen them before. And this is the perfect time of year to get the bike out for longer rides! We have long days but aren’t up to our highest summer temperatures yet.

If you’re looking for a great, organized ride to really push yourself, or just to see some beautiful scenery in Middle Tennessee, you’ve got to sign up for the Big Hill Challenge.

The Details

This year’s Big Hill Challenge is going to be on Saturday, June 14. Everything will start out at 515 West Main Street, Watertown. On the day of the event, you’ll want to get there early. Registration will be at Watertown Middle School and starts at 6 a.m. Then the rides will start at 7 a.m.

No matter how experienced or inexperienced you are with cycling, there’s a ride just for you! Here are the routes you can choose from.

  • A 14-mile route that’s a great choice for families or people participating in an organized ride for the first time
  • A 31-mile route that will let participants ride along creek beds and pastures
  • A 62-mile route – this one includes a big hill challenge as you climb Center Hill
  • A 100-mile route for century riders

This event is well-organized and set up to support riders at all levels. Every route includes at least one rest stop that will have food and hydration options available to keep you riding at tip-top shape. If you run into issues with your bike, there will be mechanics at the start of the race and at the rest stops.

And the fun’s not over when you finish your ride. Afterward, lunch will be served by Nona Lisa Pizzeria on the lawn of the historic train station hotel on Depot Street. This will be a great time to relax and get to know other cycling enthusiasts in the area.

About the Big Hill Challenge

This is the 16th annual Big Hill Challenge, so you know it’s a favorite for folks in the area. The event is organized by the Veloteers Bicycle Club. If you’re an active cyclist in the Middle Tennessee area, it’s a great organization to join, and memberships are affordable. That way you can train with experienced riders and help bring new riders along.
